Everything We Know About Alice In Genshin Impact

Alice is a mysterious character who we’ve never seen face-to-face in Genshin Impact. She’s most well known as a witch and as Klee’s mother, but there’s so much more to her than that—and there’s so much more that we don’t yet know. Her history traces all the way back to Khaenri’ah, locales like Golden Apple Archipelago, and mysterious figures like Rhinedottir. Here’s everything we know about the mysterious Alice so far.

Klee’s Mother in Genshin Impact and Family To Albedo

Alice is first and foremost known as Klee’s mother. Alice had Klee with a male adventurer who has since gone on a long and dangerous journey elsewhere. Because Alice was also busy with her own travels at the time he left, she gave the Knights of Favonius custody of Klee.

Though she is absent, Alice still seems to have great affection for Klee, going to great lengths to send her gifts and even designing a quest for her on the Golden Apple Archipelago. She also visited Klee at some point during Genshin’s story, but we didn’t get to see her.

Albedo is a construct currently residing in Mondstadt with Klee. Albedo was created by Rhinedottir, a friend of Alice’s, back before the cataclysm in Khaenri’ah. Eventually, Alice took Albedo in, proclaiming him to be part of her family.

Alice’s Powers And The Hexenzirkel

Alice seems to be a member of a long-lived race, having been alive since before Khaenri’ah fell. She’s a sorceress and alchemist, and her skills have been the envy of many. Her powers have been compared to that of the gods,’ and she seems to possess great knowledge of the extent of Archons’ powers and what the Archons of Teyvat are able to achieve.

She is a member of the Hexenzirkel, a group of incredibly powerful mages. Alice is one of the strongest and older members of the group. The Hexenzirkel consists of some of the most powerful magic users in all of Teyvat, with connections to other worlds and the Abyss. They possess knowledge that is completely unknown to almost everyone in Teyvat.

This includes various magical feats such as terraforming, the creation of other life, and the existence of Irminsul. The members are known to take on apprentices (like Mona), though these apprentices aren’t guaranteed a seat in the Hexenzirkel. Alice has been quite close with one of the members of the Hexenzirkel, known as Rhinedottir (code name R).

Khaenri’ah And Rhinedottir

Before the fall of Khaenri’ah, Alice befriended the alchemist Rhinedottir, also known as Gold. They were both part of the Hexenzirkel together. Rhinedottir is an extremely talented alchemist who experimented with creating artificial life. Around the time Khaenri’ah fell, several of her creations, which took the form of shadowy monsters, rampaged around Teyvat. These monsters might have been the Riftwolves—or at least related to them.

She also created Durin (the dragon whose body became parts of Dragonspine) and Albedo. It’s still unclear what happened to cause the fall of Khaenri’ah, but Rhinedottir was heavily involved in it, being dubbed the Great Sinner. After the cataclysm, she traveled to parts unknown with Albedo, acting as his mentor. At this time, she continued being part of the Hexenzirkel with Alice.

One day, Rhinedottir vanished without a trace, leaving Albedo behind with the instructions to uncover the truth behind the world of Teyvat. Rhinedottir appears to come from a land outside of Teyvat, or perhaps another world entirely, just like the Traveler, as the Hexenzirkel calls her, “A flower that is not of this world.” She appears to be known by extra-planar entities like Skirk (Tartaglia’s mentor) and her mentor, Surtalogi. Rhinedottir’s current whereabouts are unknown.

Alice’s Adventures And The Teyvat Travel Guide

Along with being an incredibly powerful sorceress, Alice is also an adventurer. She has been everywhere in Teyvat and possibly to other lands and worlds as well. Not long before the start of the game, Alice started writing the Teyvat Travel Guide, which served as both a guide to the land and her own personal travel diary.

Is Alice A Descender?

A Descender is a person who comes from a world outside of Teyvat and is not bound by Teyvat’s natural laws. So is Alice in Genshin Impact also a Descender? Well, there are currently four known Descenders in the game’s lore, but the identities of two of them are unclear.

  • The First Descender is likely the Heavenly Principles.
  • The Second Descender is unknown.
  • The identity of the Third Descender is unknown. All we know is that they are deceased, and their remains were used to create the seven Gnosis. This means that it’s unlikely that the Second Descender arrived in Teyvat any sooner than 2,000 years ago at the end of the Archon War, at which point the seven divine thrones in Celestia were decided.
  • The Fourth Descender is the Traveler.

Oddly enough, the Traveler’s sibling is distinctly not a Descender. Alice has previously expressed some knowledge of other worlds (even mentioning the Rubicon, a river in Italy, in one of the Chasm quests) and seems to be unaffected by Irminsul, the tree of knowledge which, Nahida maintains.

She appears to have introduced Barbara to Idols, which seems to be something that was relatively unknown in Teyvat beforehand. So while there is no official confirmation, many fans speculate that Alice could be one of the remaining Descender’s in Genshin Impact.

Other Characters Who Know Alice in Genshin Impact

Alice apparently introduced the idea of being an Idol to Barbara. Alice is one of Dori’s primary suppliers, sending her rare items that she has found on her travels. Dori frequently sends royalty money to Alice.

Alice has previously met Yae Miko but doesn’t seem to have that high of an opinion of her, stating that it’s really easy to make Yae Miko cry. Zhongli met her not long before the events of the story, and she remarked on how stern he was. All of the Knights of Favonius seem to have interacted with Alice on several different occasions. This makes sense as she has spent a lot of time there.

Where Is Alice in Genshin Impact Now?

Alice is presumed to still be adventuring somewhere in the world. At some point in the main story, she found the Golden Apple Archipelago, which was featured in a limited-time event during the game’s first year and during version 2.8.

She constructed a quest for the characters of Mondstadt to go on in the Archipelago as a summer vacation present for Klee. The Golden Apple Archipelago is located in the waters somewhat close to Mondstadt but is inaccessible due to a thick fog. Aside from that, Alice’s current whereabouts, or what she’s doing, are unknown.

Genshin Impact is now available on iOS, Android, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
