Fighting game fans from around the world are looking forward to EVO Japan in January 2018, but we’ll get a taste of what’s to come in the tournament organizer’s pre-tourney “sài” later this month. Here’s a trailer for the event.
The tournament’s three headlining titles of the main tournament are Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. The event will have a side tournament going on as well with three additional titles in BlazBlue: Central Fiction, The King of Fighters XIV, and Dead or Alive 5: Last Round.
Noticeably absent from the tournament is Street Fighter V, which will likely be EVO Japan’s main event if it’s anything like the regular EVO. There are other major Street Fighter V tournaments going on this month, so the lack of top talent would certainly diminish its interest, but it’s still odd to not even see it included as one of the side titles in the open-tournament, where plenty of locals will get a chance to shine.
sài takes place on May 20 through 21, 2017, at the Akihabara UDX, where we’ll also see EVO Japan take place in January 2018.
