The movie based on Exit 8 opens in North America on April 10, 2026, and in honor of that The Walking Man played by Yamato Kochi will be heading to New York City. Neon, which is distributing the film in the country, announced the promotion on social media and shared a schedule for where he’ll appear on April 8, 2026. People who encounter him can get an unspecified prize if they spot him and say, “Turn back.” It’s also a callback to the character in the game and novelization.

Things will start at 9:15am ET on April 8, 2026, as that’s when the actor who plays The Walking Man in the Exit 8 movie will appear in-character at Fulton Street Station. It’s unknown if he’ll be walking around, as he does in the film, or if it will be a more stationary situation. People who see him need to say the tagline from the film, which references the idea that if you spot an anomaly, you must turn back. He will open his briefcase and give out a reward if someone does. The actor Yamato Kochi also shared a photo on social media of himself on a plane flying to NYC for this event.

In both The Exit 8 movie and game, The Walking Man is a staple occurrence and one of the ways to check if there is an “anomaly.” Normally, the character walks straight through the subway hallway while holding a briefcase in his right hand and phone in his left. If he does something out of character, like smile or stare at you, then you need to turn back.

The Exit 8 movie will debut in North America on April 10, 2026, following its release in Japan in 2025, and the game is on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, mobile devices, and Meta Quest. The novelization is available in English via Flatiron.
