Lonely Star’s open world is filled with phantoms seeking prey or trying to recapture the meaning of their lost lives. The player’s job is to exorcise them through combat, attacking with swords and sorcery in top-down combat. Stealth is also an option, giving players a chance to surprise their ghostly enemies. This will become very useful, as the player is often outnumbered throughout the game.

Corn is an extremely useful tool throughout the player’s journey. Certain types possess magical properties that will let the player use obscuring smoke or light fires to keep foes at bay. Corn will also fuel the player’s health, and can be planted and grown in safe places to ensure the player stays in good shape.

The player will want to be healthy, as that life energy is also needed for the game’s crafting system, which is needed to make useful tools. Players can also track and hunt animals or find edible plants to increase their energy, though.

Lonely Star’s world is a bizarre landscape of modern fantasy interwoven with real history. It is filled with an array of characters, some of whom have accepted the star’s arrival and others who are facing life in this world in their own ways.
