Explore Japan on your PSP through the eyes of cosmic tourist

On May 1st, Sony has a quirky and rather creative game coming out called Nippon no Asoko de (loosely, There is Japan). In the game you play as an alien sent to research Japan and see if it’s a suitable spot for outer space tourists. What makes the title extremely unique is it has an actual map of Japan as the setting. You can visit real landmarks like Tokyo Tower in a tiny yellow UFO at day or night.

On the journey players open up new areas by using a roulette fishing system. Strange yes, but simply explained a wheel pops up and if you tap the button at the right time you get a multicolored fish and a few buildings on the maps. The little alien can collect souvenirs too. The first video shows a ship filled to the brim with items like a model horse racing track and the star alien wearing a Tokyo Tower hat. I can’t help, but think this is a cleverly disguised edutainment title. It doesn't bother me though. The song is catchy and I’m putting this on my must play list.

Update: PSPFanboy has a YouTube embed of the same trailer. Also I'm also glad I'm not the only person who found Nippon no Asoko de charming.
