Famicom Games And Game Boy Advance (Sort Of) Coming To 3DS Virtual Console


wariowareNintendo formally announced plans to re-release Nintendo or Famicom games on the Nintendo eShop. By the end of this year, users will be able to download Famicom games to their 3DS console with extra unspecified features.


Japanese and North American 3DS owners will also be able to download a few Game Boy Advance games by participating in the ambassador program. Nintendo says they have "no plans" to sell Game Boy Advance titles, but will reward 3DS owners who log on to the Nintendo eShop once before August 11 with twenty games.


Ambassador program participants can receive the following games for free:


Game Boy Advance (10 titles total)

– Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3

– Mario Kart: Super Circuit

– Metroid Fusion

– Wario Ware Inc.

– Mario vs. Donkey Kong

– +5 unannounced games


Nintendo / Famicom (10 titles total)

– Super Mario Bros.

– Donkey Kong Jr.

– Balloon Fight

– Ice Climbers

– The Legend of Zelda

– +5 unannounced games


All five NES games listed will be sold on the Nintendo eShop at a later date, but ambassadors will get access to them first and for free. Pricing for NES/Famicom games have not been announced. The ambassador program kicks off on September 1 when the NES games are available. The Game Boy Advance titles will be distributed by the end of this year.
