Famitsu’s Game Of 2009 Is…

image Another best of 2009 list… in April? May is just one week away, but Famitsu takes a long time to roll out their yearly awards. Actually, they just posted the results, which we translated below.

Which game took top honors? Hint it starts with a “D” and ends in “IX”.

Tomodachi Collection

Rookie Award (this goes out to an outstanding original game)

Yuji Hori (Creator of Dragon Quest)

Best Character
Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)

Best Video Game Maker
Square Enix

Excellence Award
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Demon’s Souls
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Resident Evil 5
Final Fantasy XIII

Best Hit Award (prize for the top selling game)
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Game of the Year
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Seeing Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies in the top spot is hardly unexpected. However, Famitsu gave a nod to Uncharted 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, two Western titles. Maybe Square Enix’s Extreme Edges has a chance to succeed. After all, Famitsu considered them the best video game maker of 2009 too.
