Social media user “giga_yadoran” stated that they will take down their Pokemon Wordle browser-based fan game on October 3, 2026. According to the announcement, it’s because The New York Times contacted them about how the game infringes on the company’s rights over Wordle.
Pokemon Wordle is a Japanese word-based puzzle game where you have to guess a Pokemon’s name within a certain number of turns. (It’s not to be confused with Pokedle.) The title is only available in Japanese, and it came out on January 30, 2022. For those who aren’t as familiar with newer entries, you can set it to only give questions for specific generations or games. Twitter user “giga_yadoran” is a web engineer who has also made other games, and you can check out their portfolio online.
Wordle is a web-based word game that’s been available on The New York Times Games application since 2022. It has been exceptionally popular and inspired many clones, with “giga_yadoran”‘s being just one of them. The game plays similarly to Hangman. Players have six tries to guess a five-letter word, with the game giving color-coded information based on the accuracy of the guesses.
Pokemon Wordle will be taken down on October 3, 2026. Players will have until then to play it if they wish. Though not a Wordle clone, those who want a fun daily Pokemon-related puzzle can check out Pokedoku, which is a Sudoku-based Pokemon game. As for actual Pokemon games, the first Generation X games, Winds and Waves, will come out in 2027 for the Switch 2.
