Far Cry 5 released last week and Ubisoft announced that it is now the fastest-selling Far Cry game to date. Its massive launch was also enough to rank it the company’s second biggest launch title ever.
In addition to starting out with a launch week that saw about double that of Far Cry 4 in sales, Ubisoft revealed that half of it has come from digital sales. Additionally, the company announced that customers spent a whopping $310 million on Far Cry 5’s launch week, making it the second biggest launch of any Ubisoft title, just behind The Division.
Far Cry 5 has also been doing well for itself on the streaming scene with over 55,000 hours from Twitch streams and over 117 million views at YouTube, making it the most streamed and viewed Ubisoft game at launch.
Ubisoft shared other stats for the game:
- Players were ambushed by 8,651 skunks
- Caught 5.1 million fish
- 35.14 million sticks of dynamite thrown
- 1.1 million hours of quality time spent with Cheeseburger the bear
- 177 million civilians saved
- 38.8 meters of total distance of all shovels thrown
Here’s a quote from Ubisoft Americas Preisdent Laurent Detoc:
“Far Cry 5, like the real Montana, is a vast and gorgeous playground filled with colorful stories for players to enjoy and share. We’re grateful to newcomers and fans of the series who have joined us in Hope County and have collectively grown our community.”
And one from Dan Hay, Executive Producer:
“I’m proud that the culmination of years of passionate work from the team is paying off, and that Far Cry 5’s experience resonates with so many people. We are humbled by players’ reception of Far Cry 5 and fired up to keep growing and supporting the Far Cry community in the months and years to come.”
