NetDevil (the team behind Auto Assault) announced they are working on Lego Universe, a family friendly MMOG with the Lego license. Since the game isn’t coming out until the 4th quarter of 2008 there aren’t many details about how the game is going to play. The game will have some kind of character advancement (leveling up Lego men?) and you will be able to customize your mini-fig (read: avatar). I hope Lego Universe doesn’t fall into the hack/slash/grind routine that many MMOs do. Wouldn’t Lego Universe be much better if it was virtual playground where you can build whatever you want out of Lego blocks?
See the press release is past the break.

BILLUND, DENMARK – June 7, 2007 – The LEGO(R) Group today announced LEGO Universe as the official title for the upcoming MMOG being developed by NetDevil(R) to further engage the company’s dedicated and active community. LEGO Universe, currently planned for launch in the fourth quarter of 2008, is designed as the first MMOG professionally developed for LEGO fans and supported by community members from around the world.
"LEGO Universe ties together all aspects of our community and line of products in an online environment that can be enjoyed by LEGO fans of all ages," said Mark William Hansen, Director of Business Development, LEGO Universe.
