Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse Characters and Locations Detailed

Koei Tecmo shared more details about Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, this time going over some important characters and unsettling locations. The official website updated with the new information. There’s also a new video message from Producer Yutaka Fukaya and Director Makoto Shibata.

First, the company elaborated on four Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse characters. Two are the parents of Ruka Minazuki, one of the playable characters. Sayaka Minazuki is ill and left after what her husband put Ruka through. Soya Yomotsuki is a mask maker who makes them for the Rogetsu Kagura festival. He also used to put them on Ruka. He’s trying to create the titular Mask of the Lunar Eclipse.

The other two Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse characters revealed are Shigeto Haibara and his son, Yo. Shigeto wears many hats. He’s the leader on the island. He’s also a priest who heads up the Rogetsu Kagura. As the founder of the Haibara Infirmary, he’s also its director. Meanwhile, Yo is a doctor at that clinic, which he asked his father to make, and involves the Rogetsu Hall for Moonlight Syndrome patients.

As for the Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse locations, most of them are tied to the Haibara family. One of the places people will visit is the Haibara Clinic. That is where Yo conducted his experiments. It is also where Moonlight Syndrome patients would stay. They would be in its Rogetsu Hall.

There are also some places tied to the Rogetsu Kagura festival and past events. People will visit Ruka’s father, Soya, at the Yomotsuki Residence. The Cape Tsukiyomi Lighthouse is also prominently featured. The shrine there is a key location during the festival.

Finally, here is the message from the developers. It starts with Producer Yutaka Fukaya thanking people, and reminding folks it has been 15 years since the Japanese debut. At the 1:02 mark, Director Makoto Shibata appears. Shibata reminded people that he’s been working on the series since the original PS2 game. He also thanked people for their support.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC via Steam on March 9, 2023. It will only be available digitally.
