During the April 2025 Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Final Fantasy VII Remake showed up, and the first JRPG in the FFVII trilogy now has a release date. It appeared again at the July 2025 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. We’ll see it appear on January 22, 2026.
As a reminder, FFVII Remake is the first of three games retelling the JRPG storyline, and the Switch 2 version is based on the Intergrade release with Yuffie DLC. It focuses only on what happens with Cloud after he returns to Midgar, reunites with his childhood friend Tifa, aids the resistance group Avalanche as a mercenary, and takes his first steps toward saving the world from his former ally and commanding officer Sephiroth.

We’re still waiting for news on the third entry in this trilogy. The second part, FFVII Rebirth, debuted on the PS5 in 2024 and PC in 2025. It covered up through a critical moment involving Aerith.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake Switch 2 release date is January 22, 2026, and the FFVII entry is already available on the PS4, PS5, and PC. It will also come to the Xbox Series X.
