In an interview with Famitsu, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the upcoming third part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy FFVII Revelation, discussed the possibility of DLC that Square Enix may release for the game. The interview also confirmed that there will also be a new Weapon in this installment that wasn’t in the previous games. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
Halfway through the article, the interviewer asked whether Square Enix or not has any plans to make post-game DLC for FFVII Revelation. Hamaguchi’s response was:
“FFVII Revelation will conclude the series, but if there is plenty of demand and interest in the userbase after release, we will proactively consider [making DLC for] parts that we haven’t depicted yet, or parts that people wish to know the details of, including from previous spin-off works.”
In other words, user interest will determine whether Square Enix gives the green light on DLC development for FFVII Revelation. Sales for the game will probably be taken into consideration as well.
Hamaguchi also teased a new Weapon that appeared in the trailer. He stated that he will reveal more information on the Weapon, including its name, later on. But it is one that is completely new to the remake series, rather than a redesigned one from the original game. The Weapon in question appears at around the 1:26 mark of the reveal trailer, which you can watch via the official Final Fantasy YouTube channel, as well as here:
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will come out on PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch 2, and Windows PC in Spring 2027. It will be a simultaneous global launch.
