FFXIV Hrothgar and Viera Headgear Support Coming for More Hats

During the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXVII stream, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio “Foxclon” Murouchi stated more headgear support for FFXIV Hrothgar and Viera avatars will add new hat and helmet options. The different caps will start to be available in 7.3 when that debuts in early August 2025, and eventually those races will be able to wear helmets. That patch will also offer support for people who wear hoods, allowing their hair’s bangs to show out from under them.

In the showcase, Yoshida and Murouchi confirmed the expanded Hrothgar and Viera headgear support will start to roll out with more hats available when FFXIV 7.3 first appears. This applies to both the male and female versions of those avatars. In the case of the Viera, we’ll also be able to toggle whether or not their ears will appear out of the top of the caps too, and that can be saved.

Here are the initial screenshots showing some of the newly supported hats, as well as what it will look like if someone chooses whether or not to hide a Viera’s ears.

As for the bangs visibility update, here are two comparison screenshots Yoshida and Murouchi shared that show the difference. In the first, no hair can be seen from under the hood. In the second, you can see hints at the characters’ hairstyles.

Here’s a gallery of all three slides from the Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXVII that went over the FFXIV Hrothgar and Viera headgear and hat options and bangs announcement.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and patch 7.3 will release in early August 2025.
