Square Enix announced an update to the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store, and it allows us to go to certain item product listings and select the “Buy for a Friend” option for gifting things to players in FFXIV. This applies to seven new categories of items going forward. This comes after the company removed the feature back in October 2022.

In the past, gifting items to friends in Final Fantasy XIV via the FFXIV Online Store wasn’t uncommon, but Square Enix removed “Buy for a Friend” as part of a fraud prevention measure. The company noted that stolen credit card data was being used for some and others were buying items to resell. The return means on certain listings, such as the Archon Egg Parasol or Witch’s Broom Mount, now feature the gifting option below the “Add to Cart” button.

However, there are limitations to this feature. Square Enix noted the following items can be purchased via the feature in the FFXIV Online Store. But in the case of things like minions and mounts, only “single character” ones qualify. “Account-wide” ones don’t. Anything that doesn’t count will have “Unavailable as Gift” appear instead of the “Buy for a Friend” button in the FFXIV Online Store.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Buy for a Friend gifting feature is back for more items in the FFXIV Online Store now. The Hatching-tide 2026 event is also live in-game now.
