Toward the end of the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 Anaheim installment, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida offered an update on the PS4 version of the game and support past FFXIV Everhold, as well as confirmed a Switch 2 version of the game. 8.0 is supported is supported on the PS4. However, Yoshida joked people have “two years” to get a PS5, as the team only expects to be able to support up through 8.3. As for the Switch 2 release, that will happen in August 2026. It will involve a separate subscription.
Yoshida explained why this is the case for the PS4 version of FFXIV. He noted the team at Square Enix already worked with Sony engineers to ensure support for the MMORPG up through Dawntrail and Evercold so far. However, he noted they are about to hit the data limit for the console. Over the first few patches in 8.0, he noted they expect the size to exceed that by the time 8.3 arrives. However, he does think that will happen in 2028.
As for the Switch 2 version of the game, there are some tentative details. It will launch in August 2026. Before that, there will be a one month early access period. That will be free. Once that ends, official service will immediately begin. The thing is, it will require its own monthly subscription fee that is separate from the one for the PS4/PS5/Xbox Series X/PC. You don’t need Nintendo Switch Online to pay, but you do need to pay that extra fee. However, if you are already subscribed on another console or the PC, then the Switch 2 subscription fee is 50% off.
