Street Fighter EX developer Arika announced that its next fighting game Fighting EX Layer will release on June 28, sequentially in 68 countries and regions around the world.

Fighting EX Layer first started out as an elaborate April Fools’ joke where Arika made a game they were calling Arika EX, also their “Mysterious Fighting Game.” They went as far as getting pro gamers like Ryota “Kazunoko” Inoue to play the game for the prank back in April 2017.

Arika executive producer Akira Nishitari stated that it was all for an April Fools’ project, but given all the effort that was put into it, he didn’t want to see it end there and hoped to make something out of it, and his wish ended up coming true.

At EVO 2017 the company actually got a build of the game that came with many familiar systems such as the Super Cancel, Hard Attack, and others that you’d expect from the Street Fighter EX series.

Fighting EX Layer will release worldwide on PlayStation 4 on June 28, 2018. You can check out its latest footage featuring Hokuto, Kairi, Sanane, and Shirase in our previous report.
