This Fighting Game Is All About Smashing A Baseball Into Your Opponent’s Face

Lethal League combines baseball, hip-hop, street style into one highly competitive, projectile-based fighting game. If that sounds good, then you’ll want to know that developer Reptile Games has released Lethal League on Steam.

Unlike other fighting games, the only way to win a round in Lethal League is to smack a ball into your opponent’s face or body. This means the focus isn’t on chaining combos together or breaking guards, but reacting fast and being in the right place to counter your opponent.

It’s a lot like playing squash, except that you’re actively trying to smash the ball at each other, and as hard as you can. As the speed of play increases every time the ball is hit, it only takes a single slip-up for you to lose the round in the time to takes to blink.

If you follow Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament, you may recognize Lethal League as the grand final “Mystery Game” at UFGT9. “It quickly became clear that the extreme nature of the game, mixed with the stylized street visuals and chip-hop music hit a sweet spot with the crowd,” Reptile Games says.

Lethal League offers a five different playable characters with their own special moves and other quirks. The standard characters are two street kids equipped with baseball gear, while there’s also a cyborg crocodile, a skateboarding robot, and a b-girl who wields a large hammer. More characters will be added to the game over time.

The game offers up to four players in local play and online in the free-for-fall and team matches. It also allows for you to arrange private matches. Understanding that the high-speed play of Lethal League won’t play well in online matches, Reptile Games has opted to use GGPO technology that it hopes will transfer the standard of play to online matches.

You can purchase Lethal League for PC on Steam with a 10% discount during its launch week. Its full price is $13.99. More information about the game is available on its website.
