Square Enix has released an update that remedies a problem that has been present in the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy IX since its September 2017 launch. Update 1.02 has been released. Its most important adjustment is killing a music bug that would cause the music to loop, rather than pick up where it left off. (Thanks, Reddit!)

The Final Fantasy IX music bug occurred whenever someone would enter a random battle or begin a Tetra Master match. After the fight concluded, instead of picking up where it left off, the background music would start over from the beginning. With this update, the music will pick up where it left off.

Here are the full patch notes for the Final Fantasy IX 1.02 update.

    • Adjusted background music to resume where it left off when paused for battles or Tetra Master.
    • Fixed issue causing players to get stuck on the world map.
    • Fixed other minor bugs

This fix is currently only available for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The issue is still present in the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions.

Final Fantasy IX is available for the PlayStation, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, and both Android and Apple iOS devices.
