Social Network Service company mode-Duo and Square Enix teamed up to create Traveling Fairy for Mobage Town. This mobile phone only social platform in Japan is home to games like Shenmue Town and Phantasy Star: Eternal Hunters. Ryoma Ito, character designer for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, did the fairy designs for Traveling Fairy.
Traveling Fairy uses a phone’s GPS function to mark your position. There are fairies all over Japan to find and demons to fight too. Beat the local boss demon to earn a rare item specific to your region. Fairies level up after fights by earning FP (fairy points) and eventually grow into adults.
Developer mode-Duo split Japan into 505 fairy filled regions. Don’t worry you don’t need to take a train to Okinawa to defeat demons there. Traveling Fairy has a map ticket system, which allows players to jump to other regions if another player acts as a host. Traveling Fairy is out and like many Mobage Town titles it is a freemium game meaning its free to play, but virtual items cost money.
