Square Enix’s promised Final Fantasy XI free trial update for the MMORPG is now live and adjusts the time limit andlevel 75cap for what is basically an extended FFXI demo. The official site updated to confirm anyone can return and start playing it for free on PCs again. The announcement also noted that any old Free Trial accounts can be used following the change even if someone did hit the previous 14 day or level 50 cap. The download for that is live on the Square Enix Store.
The change first came up in “Freshly Picked Vana’diel“ in May 2026, with a promised September 2026 rollout. Producer and Director Yoji Fujito then again confirmed the Final Fantasy XI free trial adjustments on September 3, 2026, when he discussed changes in the new version. That statement said the FFXI free trial level cap would be increased first. Then, he noted the time limit would be removed in “late September.” He also promised “a variety of initiatives” to make that test period more appealing.
This comes as a number of campaigns return to FFXI. One is the Moogle Support Campaign for New & Returning Adventurers, which runs until October 12, 2026. More Strange Happenings in Vana’diel also ends on that date. It is also possible to earn the new Travesty weapon and returning Demonic Axe weapon, Shadow Lord shirt armor, and Shadow Lord statue furnishing.
Final Fantasy XI is available on PCs, and the updated FFXI free trial with no time limit and level 75 cap is out now.
