Square Enix has released a new system to help people who either still play Final Fantasy XI or have thought about playing it again a way to reconnect with past friends. The Final Fantasy XI ReFriender is an application that helps people find users they used to play the MMORPG with years ago. If someone is in North America or Japan, they can visit the official website and get started. Now is especially a good time, since a Welcome Back Campaign is in effect until November 20, 2018.
Here’s how the Final Fantasy XI ReFriender works. You first sign up for it, providing your Character Name, Linkshell Name, Job, and World. Then, you use the application to search for people you might have once played with. If there is a match, the people can then start to talk again and arrange times to play together.
As for the Welcome Back Campaign, there is a way to temporarily play for free and get the digital copies of the game cheaper. Until 12am PT on November 20, 2018, people who used to subscribe to PlayOnline/Final Fantasy XI can temporarily play for free. The discount campaign is available a bit longer, as it ends at 12am PT on November 30, 2018. It makes the Seekers of Adoulin Expansion Pack $4.99 and the Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition $9.99. The World Transfer Service is also $9 during this period.
Final Fantasy XI is immediately available on the PC. It used to also be playable on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, but was shut down on consoles in 2016.
