Square Enix announced that its MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, has surpassed the 14 million milestone for registered players, on time for the fifth anniversary of the game’s rebirth in A Realm Reborn back in 2013.
When Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 first released in September 2010, it didn’t seem like it’d make it far just after a few months into its launch, but after turning things around with a “rebirth” back in August 2013 the game has flourished throughout the years and continues to grow with a new milestone of 14 million registered players.
In celebration of the new milestone, producer and director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida shared the following message:
“Although the original Final Fantasy XIV failed to meet expectations, through the support of people in the media, the companies we have worked with, and of course our dedicated players, we were able to launch A Realm Reborn in 2013. FFXIV was indeed reborn, and over the course of these past five years, it has grown to become the title that we all know and love today. I cannot thank you enough.
We in the development and operations teams have been working at full capacity ever since the launch of A Realm Reborn, and while we have made our share of missteps along the way, the Warriors of Light continue to spur us onward.
There are many new gaming experiences and epic tales that we wish to share with you all. We will be working harder than ever to expand the world of FFXIV, where players form lasting bonds with one another through their adventures.
Final Fantasy XIV is the result of everyone’s passion and commitment, including all of you Warriors of Light, and I hope you will continue to support us as we build this world together.”
Additionally, fans of the series can look forward to checking out a special 14-hour live stream with a two-hour edition Letter from the Producer Live (Part XLVI) on August 31, 2018 at 8:30pm PT over at YouTube, NicoNico Live, and Twitch. The broadcast will feature Part 2 of Patch 4.4’s preview, a special guest with Saki Takayanagi, and several announcements along with some talk from Yoshi-P, Foxclon, and various staff including voice talent.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4 and PC. In August of last year, the game hit the 10 million milestone of cumulative players.
