Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s Patch 2.5 update will be available to play in a few hours, but players can currently download it ahead of time.  In fact, some data miners have found already some interesting bits in the patch files, concerning the future of the game.

One of the discoveries are the two blackened-out images you see above, with one that has an icon for a cat-shaped minion along with a Fenrir mount. The next image shows a lion-like figure, with Gilgamesh’s green chicken.

Level-5 CEO and president, Akihiro Hino, is known for being a big MMORPG fan and he’s also a big fan of Final Fantasy XIV. He appeared in a Letter from the Producer stream a few months ago.

He also shared a look at the above image of Whisper in a what appears to be a Warlion form, which looks pretty similar to the other silhouette. A collaboration wasn’t announced at the time, but it looks like we may get one soon.

While Level-5 haven’t been involved with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, they have previously worked with Square Enix on Dragon Quest VIII and IX, so a collaboration between the two companies wouldn’t be anything unprecedented.

Here’s a look at some of the other images that were extracted from the Patch 2.5 data:
