During the June 17, 2023 Japanese live stream, the Final Fantasy XVI team confirmed there will be a day one patch. Though technically, Producer Naoki Yoshida said it is a pre-release update. A 300mb update will go out on June 20, 2023. This means when someone gets the game, they can automatically download the file.
Here are the patch notes for the Final Fantasy XVI pre-release update we can download on day one.
- Fix a control flag issue which can make progress impossible under very specific circumstances.
- Fix an issue wherein the game could close unexpectedly under very specific circumstances.
- Optimize performance in several places.
- Fix some minor text errors.
You can see the patch announcement at the 3:23:35 mark in the video below.
The presentation also included the team responding to questions or criticisms from the demo. For example, at the 2:03:45 mark, a question about the frame rate came up. Yoshida noted that there will be performance updates to address issues like that. The team is also looking into providing an option to turn motion blur off and to turn auto-follow off for the camera. Yoshida also noted that if it seems too dark, this could be due to HDR optimization. He suggested changing the brightness settings on the TV.
A new trailer also released in Japan.
Final Fantasy XVI will be available for the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023, and the “day one” patch will be released on June 20, 2023 ahead of launch. A demo is available. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
