I swung by Cave’s offices to check out their iPad 2 only shooter, Espgaluda II HD. You might be wondering why the game won’t work with an iPhone 4 and the reason is Espgaluda II HD requires a lot of RAM (actually all of Cave’s mobile shooters do!), but there isn’t enough RAM on other iOS devices at the moment to play the game.
Controls for Espgaluda II HD are simple. Your fairy (read: ship) fires on his or her own. Players swipe the screen to aim and dodge bullet barrages. While this is a portable game, Espgaluda II HD is an arcade port with just as many hypnotically glowing orbs at your local game center. The key difference between this and the existing iOS release is Espgaluda II HD is prettier even through some of the backgrounds have not been remastered. The character sprites seem to have improved the most.
Being on the iPad, at least for me, makes Espgaluda II easier to play than on the iPhone. The extra screen room makes it easier to move the ship around since you can make larger motions. It feels like there is a bit more precision, but I suppose Espgaluda II (standard) would feel the same way on an iPad.
Espgaluda II HD comes out tomorrow on iTunes $13.99 and the standard version’s price will be dropped down to $7.99. Cave also has Espgaluda II Arcade Version and Espgaluda II Smartphone version available for $3.99 each.
