Game Awards 2023 Nominations Include Baldur’s Gate 3, Spider-Man 2 and Tears of the Kingdom

The nominations for the 2023 Game Awards have been announced. Geoff Keighley revealed the nominees via a live stream, in which Baldur’s Gate 3, Spider-Man 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were among the most lauded.

The nominations for Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2023 include:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Super Mario Bros Wonder
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Several games received multiple nominations across the various categories. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 lead the nominations, with eight each. As well as Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3 was nominated for Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer, and Best Performance for Neil Newborn as Astarion.

Alan Wake 2 got nominations for Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Action Adventure, and Best Performance for Melanie Liburd as Saga Anderson.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 received seven nominations, including Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Audio Design, Best Action Adventure, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Performance for Yuri Lowenthal as Peter Parker.

Nintendo did well, too, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros Wonder both gaining five nominations. Tears of the Kingdom got nods in Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, and Best Action Adventure. In contrast, Super Mario Bros Wonder got Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Family, and Best Multiplayer. Pikmin 4 also showed well, getting nominations for Best Sim/Strategy and Best Family.

Other games with multiple nominations included Hi-Fi Rush (5), Final Fantasy XVI (4), Street Fighter 6, and Resident Evil 4 (both 3). Genshin Impact was nominated for Best Ongoing Game, while Final Fantasy XIV was nominated for Best Ongoing and Best Community Support. The Best Mobile Game category included nominations for Honkai: Star Rail and Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis.

The Game Awards 2023 ceremony will be streamed live on December 7, 2023. Last year’s winners included Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok.
