Back in 2010, Eurocom and Activision released a remake of GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo Wii. It offered online multiplayer and was successful enough to spawn a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 port known as GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. Now, seven years later, Nintendo has announced the servers for the Nintendo Wii version will be closing in Japan on March 30, 2018.
To be specific, GoldenEye 007’s online services will end at 10am JST on March 30, 2018. The game was originally released in that region on June 30, 2011. Nintendo’s American and European branches have not yet said if this shut down date also applies to all regions.
The reason GoldenEye 007 could still be online despite the Nintendo WiFi Connection being shut down is due to its dedicated servers. The GoldenEye 007 online multiplayer has Black Box, Classic Conflict, Conflict, Golden Gun, Goldeneye, Heroes, License to Kill, Team Conflict, and Team License to Kill modes, five default loadouts, five custom loadouts people set up with unlocked equipment, and the Archives, Docks, Facility, Industrial, Jungle, Memorial, Nightclub, Outpost, Sewer, and Station maps.
GoldenEye 007 is available for the Nintendo Wii.
