Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising to Undergo Major Adjustments

Cygames has published its list of planned battle adjustments for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising after feedback from the beta version. The developer changed things in ten mechanics of the game, to the point that the next beta build will likely feel like a completely different game. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Here is a list of upcoming adjustments for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising:

  • No more gauge penalty when using Plus Skills so you’ll be able to use them like in Granblue Fantasy Versus
  • Major changes to Ultimate Skills
It will cost 50% of your SBA to activate. You’ll be able to chain Ultimates into combos, as well as follow it up with additional attacks. Even during skill cooldown, you can activate an Ultimate.
  • Changes to Dash Attacks
There is more of a difference between the various dash attacks. Light dash attack now advances much farther, and is good for quickly closing the gap between you and your opponent. Meanwhile, heavy dash attacks will deal more damage if they land. As well, countering a heavy dash effect will cause a screen effect. This is more to increase the overall aesthetic of the game.
  • Changes to Throws
The window to throw break is much shorter, making it harder to get out of one. There will be two ways to throw break. The first is to input a throw at the right timing, and this will be a perfect throw break that won’t cause any damage. If you press any button during the throw break window, it will count as a slow throw break. A slow throw break will still deal damage (albeit reduced), and the advantage remains with your opponent. This change was due to feedback that throws are much too weak.
  • You take more damage the less BP you have. Guard crushes from a Raging Strike, Skybound Arts, and Super Skybound Arts also deplete BP
  • Changes to Raging Strikes
Raging Strikes will no longer require the SBA gauge and instead will cost 1 BP. If it lands, you can guard crush and deplete 1 BP from your foe. Cygames adjusted Raging Strikes to have a slower start-up time. However, the reach is much longer and you can now chain it into a combo.
  • Changes to Brave Counters
Like with Raging Strikes, you no longer need the SBA gauge and it will cost 1 BP. The input is the same as a Raging Strike, and there is also a change to the visual effect.
  • Changes to Skybound Arts/Super Skyboard Arts
When you land a hit at close range, an SBA can deplete 1 BP while a SSBA can deplete 2. Because this happens first, your opponent may take significant damage depending on how much BP they have after. It also restores the user’s BP by 1. However, this only takes effect if the SBA or SSBA deals damage. Therefore, characters like Lowain will not be able to recover BP this way.
  • Cost 25% to activate Raging Chain but with a gauge penalty. They’re also harder to land, but are rewarding since they can start a powerful combo.
  • If you use technical input, your Skills can deal 10% more damage. This is because of those using technical input need to spend longer than someone using simple input to use their skills.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is sort of a sequel to Granblue Fantasy Versus, which is the fighting game spin-off of the popular online RPG. It will include 24 characters at launch, as well as rollback netcode and cross-platform play. New content will include more playable characters and activities in the lobby.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising will launch on the PS4, PS5, and Windows PC on November 30, 2023.
