Rockstar Games shared an update on its Grand Theft Auto site to go over the GTA VI digital pre-load debut time for the PS5 and Xbox Series X and game file size. It will be about a 212GB download. If someone picked up a PS5 copy, you can start pre-loading it at midnight local time on November 10, 2026. Depending on where you live, pre-loading may start earlier on the Xbox Series X, as that begins at 12am GMT on November 10, 2026. That’s 4pm PT/7pm ET on November 9, 2026.
This does mean that people who go all digital instead of the physical “code in a box” will be able to pre-load GTA VI ahead of those who pick up a retail Grand Theft Auto box. Those are expected to appear in stores and ship from places like Amazon on November 12, 2026. Once someone has the physical copy’s code, they can redeem it in their respective storefront and immediately pre-load the game on their systems. Rockstar already advised people in its announcement to clear out enough space for GTA VI due to the 212GB file size.
People do need to wait for some other GTA VI items. For example, Sony is making a limited edition DualSense PS5 controller based on the game. Pre-orders are open for the $84 peripheral, but those won’t start shipping until November 19, 2026.
The GTA VI PS5 and Xbox Series X release date is November 19, 2026 and we can pre-load the new Grand Theft Auto game starting on November 10, 2026. People who buy a physical copy of the title will get a code in a box that will launch on November 12, 2026 to allow for pre-loading.
