Bandai Namco recently announced the Japanese release date for Gundam Versus on PS4 as well as its latest playable Mobile Suits. In this weekā€™s Famitsu, the gameā€™s director and producer shared more on its development. [Thanks, Hokanko-Alt.]

Here are some notes from the interview with director Keisuke Fukuzaki and producer Naoya Yasuda.

  • Going with an arcade base would make it difficult for a worldwide expansion, so this next-generation they ended up developing it independently for console and parallel to the arcade games.

  • eSports expansion is also something theyā€™re eyeing.

  • They feel the need to pass along the message to many fans that this isnā€™t an extension to the Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. series, but a new-generation series.

  • Bandai Namco worked on inheriting from Extreme Vs. while unifying the system, as they felt that things have gotten complicated in that department.

Additionally, the developers talked about having made adjustments from the beta version of Gundam Versus. Each Mobile Suit will have their own levels for the release version. Striker unlocks as you level, and youā€™ll get to use other Mobile Suit units by purchasing them with in-game currency.

Gundam Versus launches in Japan on July 6, 2017 for PlayStation 4. Check out our earlier report for more details on its limited edition version as well as a look at the latest trailer.
