Hands on Deca Sporta

Recommended Videos

While it doesn’t have Miis, Deca Sporta (brought to you by Addidas!) keeps the easy to play feel of Wii Sports. Basically, it distills sports into motion controlled mini games. The Tokyo Game Show demo had three games to test out: badminton, snowboarding and archery. I started out with snowboarding, which has players gently tilt the remote to carve left or right. Since you move down automatically, snowboarding was a passive experience aside from a jump here and there. With a second player snowboarding was a little more entertaining, but it’s so rudimentary I can’t imagine playing it much.

Archery was a little more interesting. You start out by hitting targets 30 meters away, which consists of pointing the remote and pressing the A button to fire an arrow. The targets in archery are distant and that makes the game a challenge. Other factors like wind can throw your aim off too. Once you hit or miss three 30 meter targets its time to move on to 50 meter targets, which have an even smaller area to hit.

From these impressions Deca Sporta sounds bland, but there are more interesting games in the compilation that I wish Hudson’s demo had. Let’s see Deca Sporta also contains soccer, basketball and motorcross. Also I hear Hudson is considering localizing Deca Sporta for North America… so if you’re into the whole motion controlled sports thing, keep your fingers crossed.
