Hands On Sands of Destruction… In English!

0

sandsA little while ago Sega showed off an English build of Sands of Destruction. I jumped into it and beat the Sandwhale boss fight.

Since the demo took place at the beginning I didn’t have any allies. All I had was Kyrie and his “blood attacks”, MP consuming skills that damage monsters.  Kyrie also has a set of standard move which automatically combo. You select attacks until he runs out of vitality just like Xenogears or Chrono Cross. Combat takes place on two screens and Kyrie has a different set of moves when he super jumps to the top screen to hit deadly insects.

After battles I noticed Kyrie was often low on life. I could have used his healing skill, but I wanted to save precious MP for blood attacks. Fortunately, the game started with a healthy supply of HP replenishing items. Imageepoch said they were tweaking the difficulty, but I’m not sure if this build reflects any changes.

At the end of the dungeon I faced the Sandwhale, a boss that couldn’t be defeated with just ordinary attacks. I used Kyrie’s blood attacks liberally, but using them took longer for Kyrie to recharge. Paying attention to the turn meter on the bottom of the screen was important to make sure Kyrie had a chance to heal himself and occasionally sneak two attacks in.

This video shows off some of the teams special attacks, all of which I didn’t even get to see. Did you know Toppi (the teddy bear-like creature) summons a giant bear?
