Soulcalibur V has a powerful character creator and I made a few different characters with it. Tago-san demonstrated many of the features like attaching symbols to armor or your body as tattoos. You can make some pretty complicated characters mixing those with different types of clothing. What the video didn’t show is you can decorate any of the characters using their models as a template and add "floating" accessories.
One of the characters I made was a pirate-knight… a guy with chainmail, pirate hat, and pistols floating in the air. I tested my new character in battle and sure enough there were two guns just hovering next to him. I thought about making auras using flame-like accessories. This didn’t workout so well, but a Namco rep explained there are many more items in the full game. He also said he created the Ninja Turtles – all five of them (he counts Venus as one of the Turtles) – using the character creator.
Custom characters have different hit boxes. A heavy set warrior will be easier to strike and a tiny fighter will be naturally harder to hit. Making a microscopic fighter has a disadvantage since a character’s height affects his or her stats. Taller characters have longer reach, but at the cost of attack rate. Smaller characters have a higher attack rate, but a lower reach stat.
