Hell Yeah!, The Undead Rabbit Platformer With Fatalities

Recommended Videos

Aww, isn’t that a cute bunny… oh wait that’s the Prince of Hell. I stand corrected and if Ash was reading this he would have sliced me in half already. Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit begins with players hopping around in Hell with no weapons. I think because of "gamer logic" I tried to attack enemies by jumping on them, which was ineffective.

Ash kills Hell’s denizens with weapons like a giant spinning blade, which I got a few minutes through Hell Yeah’s first level. Once armed, Ash cuts through giant blobs while gobs of blood sputter on the screen. That’s not enough to kill enemies in Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit, though. You have to finish them off with fatality micro-games. These pop up on the screen and usually take a few seconds to complete.

Another mini-game I tried was a spinning wheel and you have three tries to get the pointer to land on a brutal punishment. Hell Yeah! has 30+ fatality micro-games, a Sega employee explained. I mostly saw the squeeze your enemy to death one when I played Hell Yeah!, though.

Other than pop up death windows, Hell Yeah! played like a more colorful (and bloody) 16-bit platformer. So, of course the stage ended with a big boss battle. Players had to use cannons scattered around the area and jump in those to launch Ash with his rotating blade of death at the boss. Ash gains more weapons as you progress through the game’s ten stages which can open up new routes. The buzz saw, for example, lets Ash cut through orange dirt.

So, why is Ash so angry? His archenemy Fat Rabbit took incriminating photos of him with his rubber ducky and posted them on Hellternet. That was enough to vex Ash and send him on a murderous rampage. You can help Ash this summer when Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit comes out for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
