In an announcement made on the Helldivers 2 Steam page, the game will begin implementing a required PSN sign-in from May 6, 2024. Existing players will see a mandatory PSN login from May 30, 2024, and they have until June 4, 2024 to link their accounts. This requirement appears to still apply even if PC players do not have crossplay activated.

While Helldivers 2 has not required a PSN account on PC since its release, the post claims this was due to technical issues at launch. Sony has stated the reason for the new requirement is for “safety and security” of players. Their claim is that the PSN moderation tools will offer players better ways to report abuse.

Response from players on the announcement has been negative, with Sony’s stated safety reasons being disputed in the comments of the announcement post. Despite the game’s generally positive reception since its release, negative reviews are now appearing reducing the game’s Steam rating to “Mixed” at the time of writing.

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt has requested that players direct any questions or criticisms at Sony themselves.

Helldivers 2 is out now for PC and PS5.
