While there’s still some time before the Monster Hunter Stories 3 free update with post-game Royal Monsters, Capcom already explained how to unlock them in-game. These will be true endgame encounters, as we will need to beat the game once to gain access to the new fights. However, there are still no details about how they’ll work mechanically or if it will involve different visual changes to the characters.

Capcom first brought up the free Monster Hunter Stories 3 update at the end of March 2026 and confirmed the stronger-than-usual Royal Monsters will be the main addition. These will be much more challenging fights that will appear in the field in every area, and the company said level 90 units will be needed to help handle them. Basically, to unlock them, you need to beat the Final Battle, then go through it a second time at an even higher difficulty.

The announcement explained how it worked. Once the patch for the update arrives, you can reload the save made before the Final Battle after finishing it to fight the boss at an even higher difficulty. After you win, Royal Monster versions of every kind of creature in the game will appear.
