The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has more of a focus on story than you might be used to. The game begins in Skyloft, an island in the sky where Link and Zelda — the two being childhood friends this time around — reside. Skyward Sword opens the day before a ceremonial bird-flying competition, which Link is to participate in.
Link and Zelda have been friends since childhood and share a special bond. Nintendo say that various events in the new game will help add more depth to their relationship. That’s Groose (above), who’s also Link’s major competition in the bird-flying competition.
Zelda, Groose and Link all attend the same school, and while Zelda isn’t royalty in this game, her father is the school’s headmaster. Curiously, his name is “Gaepora”. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the mysterious owl in Ocarina of Time was named “Kaepora Gaebora”. Hmm…
