At this morning’s keynote address Shigeru Miyamoto announced that there will be a new Wii channel where people can vote on their favorite Miis. Also he mentioned that people will be able to experience Super Mario Galaxy later this year. While there weren’t any “blockbuster” announcements there were some neat tidbits.

During the presentation Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned Nintendo’s corporate vision of expanding the audience of game players. He did this by measuring games on the “wife-o-meter”. The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time piqued his wife’s interest because she was watching their daughter play. Later games non violent games like Animal Crossing, Nintendogs and Wii Sports bumped the Wife-o-meter up.

When designing Wii Sports – Tennis there was some discussion about having Mario characters in the game instead of using Miis.
