Honkai Impact X Evangelion Event Shows off Asuka, Blazing Hope

Honkai Impact x Evangelion

Though Genshin Impact seems to be getting most of the attention these days, it’s too early to count out developer miHoYo’s other current title: Honkai Impact 3rd. In fact, a big brand collaboration event, Honkai Impact X Evangelion is due to kick off on January 22, 2021. Our previous report had a teaser trailer showing how Evangelion‘s Angels appearing in the world of Honkai Impact. Now a new, more substantial Honkai Impact X Evangelion trailer has just dropped:

The new Honkai Impact X Evangelion event trailer is more specific and opens with a glimpse of the event’s crossover character, who none other than Shikinami Asuka Langley, Second Child and pilot of the Evangelion Unit-02. Still dressed in her iconic red plugsuit, Asuka wakes up in Nagazora, a city in Japan.

Other scenes from the trailer mirror iconic frames from Neon Genesis Evangelion, such as one with a giant robot and a man who looks a lot like a younger, better-coiffed Gendo Ikari. We see the Angel Sachiel attack Nagazora. Asuka also runs past someone who looks quite a bit like Honkai Impact heroine Kiana Kaslana, sporting a new red plugsuit and an eye patch straight from Rebuild of Evangelion 3.0.

A gameplay showcase at the end for Asuka shows the Evangelion character wearing a uniform emblazoned with NERV iconography and seemingly inspired by the school uniform worn by Evangelion Rebuild character Mari Makinami Illustrious. Asuka also wields a human-sized version of the iconic red Lance of Longinus in battle.

Honkai Impact 3rd is immediately available on Android devices, iOS devices, and PCs via the official website. The Honkai Impact X Evangelion event (formally titled “Angel Descends Upon Nagazora”) will begin on January 22, 2021.
