This year, Aksys will release two more Kunio sports games on the Nintendo DS, River City Soccer Hooligans and River City Super Sports Challenge. Always good to see the hot-blooded hooligans on the field, but why is the series only on handhelds? Has Arc System Works thought about a Kunio game for consoles?
I brought that question to Arc System Works and this is what they had to say.
“Yes, we have. Since the Kunio series has been continually released on the GBA and original Gameboy, as well as the Nintendo Entertainment System, I believe that games in the Kunio series are not to be confined to a small format, like cell phone applications. I often find myself wanting to play Kunio games on TV, like I used to as a child, but there’s been a rumor going around the office that a secret project has been launched, so although we wouldn’t like you to get your hopes too high, please keep a close watch on our next move.”
Yeah, I used to play Kunio games on a TV t… wait… did someone just say “secret project” in a Kunio interview? Whatever this is it has to come out after River City Soccer Hooligans, which isn’t even out in Japan yet.
Look for the full Kunio-Kun interview later this week where Arc System Works and license holder Million talk about the new sports games and the future of the series.
