How does Luck of the Far Realms Feature Work in Baldur’s Gate 3

As mentioned previously, Luck exists in Baldur’s Gate 3. Luck points replenish once per long rest, and using Luck points during combat can force an enemy to redo their role, sometimes saving your character from life or death. But Luck of the Far Realms in Baldur’s Gate 3 works a bit differently. This particular skills is limited to Illithid Powers which can only be unlocked by consuming Illithid Tadpoles. These have no real significant consequences, outside of impacting how your character looks if you consume one too many.

Luck of the Far Realms does the following in Baldur’s Gate 3

  • When you make a successful Attack Roll against a foe, you can change that hit to a Critical Hit.

In order to unlock Luck of the Far Realms, you will need to first insert an Illithid Tadpole into your brain, and from there unlock Favourable Beginnings, and then you can use your third Tadpole to get this specific skill. Favourable Beginnings is also great to grab on the way there, because any Attack Roll or Ability Check made against any target gains a bonus equal to your Proficiency Bonus.

Again, you can consume as many of these Illithid Tadpoles as you like, as these are by far some of the most powerful skills in the game. Additionally, if you manage to be on the good side of your companions, you can also convince them to consume these powerful little worms. Luck of the Far Realms is great on characters like Astarion (especially if he’s an Assassin), Lae’zael, and Gale.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PC and PlayStation 5.
