Nightsong Baldur's Gate 3

How to Complete Find the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

The Nightsong is a character you can find in Baldur’s Gate 3, and one that can potentially become an ally to aid you in your fight against Kethric Thorm. While exploring the Sharran Sanctuary, you can encounter this character. Doing so will impact your relationship with Shadowheart, furthering her questline in one of two directions. Additionally, the Nightsong has a role to play in Isobel‘s quest, making them a fairly important character during this segment of the game. That said, getting to the Nightsong requires you to complete the Gauntlet of Shar.

How to Beat Balthazar in Baldur’s Gate 3

Balthazar is thankfully a fairly easy fight. You should have Shadowheart with you for this encounter, as her Turn Undead spell can potentially kill all of his skeletal constructs with a single spell. Balthazar himself isn’t so much of an issue and if you have Gale with you, or even Astarion to sneak and deliver stealth attacks, he will go down quickly. Just make sure to stay away from the edge of the arena, as Balthezar’s summoned undead will attempt to shove you off of the arena.

Suggestions for this fight include rushing Balthezar to take him out of the fight, and move your party to the center of the arena. From there, have Shadowheart cast Turn Undead to get rid of most of the skeletons. You can ideally take out Balthezar first turn if you focus fire on him with Magic Missile, and concentrate melee attacks on him. If you’re an all melee team, just pummel him to death with your swords, fists, or whatever you have at your disposal. Either way, it should be a relatively easy fight.

Should you Save or Kill the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3

Saving or killing the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3 will have immediate consequences. Outside of whether or not she will assist you in defeating Kethric Thorm, if kept alive, this will impact your relationship with Shadowheart. It will steer her character in one of two directions. If you are playing a more traditionally “evil” party, then you will more than likely want to kill the Nightsong. While this may seem like a boon for Shadowheart, granting her the status of Shar’s Chosen, it will lock you off from any potential romance for her. Additionally, this will affect an interaction down the line once you make it to Baldur’s Gate concerning Shadowheart’s adoptive mother.

However, should you keep the Nightsong alive, which will take persuading Shadowheart not to kill her (you’ll be given two chances to roll for this, so save your Inspiration for this moment if you want to change her mind), you will gain a valuable ally when fighting Thorm. The Nightsong will assist you in fighting Thorm, which makes the fight significantly easier, as she does loads of damage. She can die during this encounter, which can be a pain if your intention is to keep her alive to resolve Isobel’s quest. That said, taking this path will also set Shadowheart down the path of “good,” and you will learn more about her backstory and the role her adoptive mother played in it (her hair will also turn white). Much like killing Nightsong, this choice will affect your interaction with said character once you reach Baldur’s Gate to finish Shadowheart’s companion quest.

Baldur’s Gate III is available on PC and will release for the PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2023.
