The Balahara is basically that monster in Monster Hunter Wilds that will make you look at it and cringe. It is vaguely Khezu-like in some ways too. Aside from it making you deal with some stamina issues, it isn’t all that troublesome. In fact, it can be handy for triggering Turf Wars during other fights.
Where do I find the Balahara in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The Balahara is the buddy you’ll only find in the Plains. It shows up as fifth campaign monster, even though you’ll encounter them in your first moments in the Forbidden Lands as you run after
I honestly found it is most likely you’ll see a Balahara at night. However, if you’re fighting another monster and lure it over a hidden Balahara during the day in the desert, then you can trigger a Turf War and make it emerge. That’s a fantastic way to deal damage to your actual target, though you could use it as a way to lure this monster out too.
Also, if you want to make one show up immediately to fight, choose the Optional Quest called “Sand Sea Surge.”
How do I beat a Balahara?
The only real issue is dealing with Waterblight, which the Balahara can inflict. That makes it take longer for your stamina to recharge. Since this is an agile monster that can be constantly moving, diving, and emerging from underground, it can make evading more difficult. Having Nulberries on hand can help with that.
So a good approach is to deal with the Waterblight and the agile tail. You can sever the tail, which makes attacking from the back much safer and lets you avoid Waterblight. The mouth and head are both weak, with the latter being breakable, so you can just… remove the issue of the status effect completely.
As for it going underground, have a Sonic Bomb or Flash Pod on-hand. You can successfully use both against it. While it also is susceptible to most status effect, it is especially weak against Paralysis. You know which monster lets you make weapons with that status effect? Lala Barina.

What are the Balahara drops in Monster Hunter Wilds?
You get the Balahara Certificate as a guaranteed single drop. The rarest items are the Aqua Sac and Balahara Black Pearl. You shouldn’t have too much trouble getting a Balahara Scale, Balahara Shell, Balahara Skull, and Balahara Tail. Especially since the tail is guaranteed if you sever that part, and the head can be acquired via breaking that part. (I found the tail to be the hardest to get!)
You’ll need that Black Pearl for the Balahara Coil. The Balahara Vambraces need the Aqua Sac, Balahara Skull, and Balahara Tail.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
