The Congalala is back in Monster Hunter Wilds and, while its status effects are annoying, it's susceptible to a lot of attacks.

How to Find and Beat Congalala in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Congalala is a dirty, stinky, neon ape who is going to summon its family to hassle you in most Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter Wilds included. It’s also a pretty common “spawn,” especially if you spend a lot of time in the Forest. Here’s how to deal with one.

Where do I find the Congalala in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The Congalala is the fourth monster you fight in the campaign in Monster Hunter Wilds. The Wudwuds will only allow you to keep exploring in the Forest and maintain Pop Up Camps there if you beat the one causing them trouble.

So, you’ll always find Congalala and its smaller Conga monsters in this region. It shows up in any season. I usually saw it during the day. Also, if it isn’t immediately available, picking up the Optional Quest “Tussle in Pink” lets you fight one right away.

How do I beat a Congalala?

The Congalala will fart on you. It’s going to happen. Even if all of your dodges are perfect, you’ll get all stunk up. It’s the side effect of its Stench special attack. Not to mention it’s bad hygiene also means it is going to probably try and inflict Poison, Paralysis, and Blastblight on you. Going into a fight against one with Deodorant is a must, as well as Nulberry and Antidotes.

Oh, it can also use a Minor Tremor attack that can interrupt your combos and such, making it more difficult to unleash a continuous attack. Thanks, you damn, dirty ape!

What does it do when it attacks? Well, it farts. It belches. It swats at you with its arms. It jumps.
Its lil’ baby Congas will show up. It’s annoying!

Its head and forelegs are breakable, which is good. But that means you’re in range of the creature’s burps. The tail and rear are both weak, but then you’re right in the line of farts. The good news is that it isn’t difficult to Blastblight, Exhaust, put to Sleep, Stun, inflict Paralysis on, or Poison, and you can use Flash Pods, Shock Traps, and Pitfall Traps on it. Plus, it’s weak against the Fire and Ice elements, so you can use that Quematrice weapon on it.

What are the Congalala drops in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Another bit of good news when it comes to a Congalala is that it’s very easy to get many of its parts. You’re going to have no trouble getting Congalala Claws or Congalala Pelts. (Both also drop if you break its forearms or tail.) They’re super common. The Vibrant Pelt is harder to get, and I found I only ended up with one if I focused on breaking its head. The Congalala Certificate also is a once-per-fight drop. The thing I had the most trouble getting was Congalala Fang, but I usually ended up with one when carving up the carcass at the end of a hunt.

You need said Fang for the Conga Greaves and Conga Coil. That Vibrant Pelt? The Conga Mail, Conga Vambraces, and Conga Helm need that. Speaking of the gloves portion of that set, it might be the trickiest to complete if you aren’t doing a lot of searching for materials both in your free time and on hunts. A pair of Conga Vambraces needs one Congalala Fang, one Vibrant Pelt, and one Machalite Ore from the Forest mining spots.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
