I feel like the first monster you encounter in each new area in Monster Hunter gamestypically isn’t too terrifying, but might be designed to help you get used to certain mechanics or locations. With the Monster Hunter Wilds Iceshard Cliffs area, we meet returning monster Nerscylla as our first foe there to help us get used to the Sleep status effect and dealing with Webbed leaving you motionless. Not to mention, Nerscylla Hatchlings are a great source of Monster Fluid.
Where do I find the Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The Nerscylla marks your first Cliffs encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. While it can sometimes be found in the Basin area, the Cliffs are its primary habitat from my experience. Though, once you unlock the area, it can show up in Wounded Hollow too.
The quick way to immediately encounter one is to head to the Quest Counter and choose its Optional Quest. That’s called “Dance of Shadows.”

How do I beat a Nerscylla?
Like Lala Barina and other spider monsters in the series, Nerscylla is very agile. It will strike with a stinger, and use its pincers and claws to strike. One of its most common moves is to first shoot out webbing to cause the Webbed status effect to leave you immobile. It will then typically attempt to poison or put an opponent to sleep. Then, it’ll come in close for attacks.
Unlike the Lala Barina, which jumps around a lot, the Nerscylla often swings instead. It will telegraph sending out silk, then use that attack to both zip around the area and swing into opponents. If you’re in its spider-web nest area in the Cliffs, which is where it will retreat to when it’s weakest, it will also disappear under the webbing and come up from below to strike.
That web-filled space is also when you’ll find the most Nerscylla Hatchlings. These are teeny, tiny spiders with super small hitboxes. They aren’t as dangerous when there’s just one or two around, but if more than six show up, they can all head toward you at once and deal tiny bits of incremental damage that adds up as they attack as a horde.
My advice? Get out of the way after the Nerscylla uses webbing. Then dash in and get a few hits in. After you see it swing somewhere, you typically can get a few hits in as it regroups. Try and break the forelegs and stinger if you can, as that can prevent things like poison and sleep from happening. Also, while any weapon is typically fine, the blunt ones can be especially effective on the weak head area.

What are the Nerscylla drops in Monster Hunter Wilds?
You’re always going to get one Nerscylla Certificate from the fight. The Nerscylla Spike is somewhat rare, and you can get that from breaking the stinger above its head. The Nerscylla Chelicera and Sleep Sacs are pretty rare drops. Since both the Nerscylla Claw and Rubbery Hide are pretty common, expect to get a lot of them after an encounter.
The most difficult piece of armor to craft is going to be the Nerscylla Helm. You need to have a Nerscylla Certificate, Nerscylla Chelicera, Rubbery Hide, and Sleep Sac for it. The Nerscylla Greaves and Nerscylla Coil both also need Nerscylla Chelicera parts too.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
