How to Find Clay and Other Spirit Resources in Moonstone Island

Spirit Resources such as Clay are rare items in Moonstone Island. Whether you’re trying to get through the Temples or crafting armor for the deadlier islands, these items are essential to your progression through the game. However, it isn’t immediately clear where you get these items from.

What Are Spirit Resources Used for in Moonstone Island?

Spirit Resources are used for multiple purposes. They are sometimes used as keys for the seasonal temples, such as Clay being required to complete the Spring Temple. They can also be used to craft armor to protect against elemental hazards.

In order to craft any armor required, you’ll need an anvil and the appropriate metals, along with the Spirit Resources. Each item will protect against hazards of its type. So Sparks can be used to craft armor that protects you from lightning strikes on the Electric islands, while Fireballs can be used to prevent the stamina drain on Fire islands.

Where Do You Find Spirit Resources in Moonstone Island?

There are eight unique Spirit Resources in Moonstone Island, and there is only one way to obtain them. First, you’ll need a Spirit Barn, which can be built with a Moonstone Enchanter. Next you’ll need to populate the Spirit Barn and keep your new friends fed.

Each day, there is a chance that your Spirits have dropped an item. The item that gets dropped depends on the Spirit’s type. Here’s a list of each Spirit type and their corresponding item drop:

  • Earth = Clay
  • Water = Sea Glass
  • Poison = Poison
  • Electric = Sparks
  • Fire = Fireball
  • Dark = Dark Matter
  • Psychic = Dream Drop
  • Ice = Snowball

While the first five types are easy to find by heading to an island of the appropriate type, the last three are a little trickier to find.

Dark types can caught on the Dark island, but only one of these will randomly spawn in your playthrough. It’s usually tucked away somewhere on the edge of the map.

Psychic types can be caught during a Psychic Storm. This is an event that occurs on a random island during the night. This is not always easy to catch, but the telltale signs are a heavy sparkling rainfall and a large purple swirl marking the random island on your map.

Ice types can only be caught during one season of the year. During Winter, Ice types may show up on islands of other types. Be aware that the regular types for those islands will still appear as well.

Moonstone Island is available now for PC. A Switch version is in development.
