How to Finish ‘A Culinary Pilgrimage’ in Final Fantasy XVI

Once the sidequest “A Culinary Pilgrimage” comes around in Final Fantasy XVI, you’re getting to the point where these missions get a bit more involved. At this point, you’ll begin seeing optional assignments with multiple steps. Sometimes, the exact location of a monster won’t even be given. While this task from Yvan isn’t too challenging, there are a few things to do to finish it.

Everything starts when you talk to Yvan the kitchen hand at the hideaway’s restaurant. He borrowed a book from Tomes with old recipes and wants to try making them again. The one he’s looking at asks for “unwanted violets,” but it’s unclear what those are.

The next step is to head to to Martha’s Rest. Clive figures that a butcher might know what this item might be. The Flesher is just past the inn, among the other stalls, and has an indicator above his head. He reveals that the “unwanted violets” are actually Lowland Scorpion tails, which people would toss in a pot with anything else when times got tough.

You can find the Flesher here:

Flesher will mention the monsters are in the Three Reeds areas. The local map will update to show exactly where they are. The Lowland Scorpions are to the north of this area, in a small dead-end part of the marsh. Head to the place in the screenshot I shared below and take out the cluster.

You’ll get five unwanted violets for your efforts, as well as 21 EXP, 12 AP, and 60 gil. Bring those back to Yvan, who’s still waiting at the hideaway’s pub. He’ll make the meal. Once the story segment is down, you’ll get a Badge of Mettle +1 accessory, 130 EXP, and 10 renown.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
