How to Finish ‘Blacksmith’s Blues II’ in Final Fantasy XVI

Yes, Blackthorne the blacksmith will need more help in Final Fantasy XVI, as there’s a “Blacksmith’s Blues II” quest. (This is a multi-part affair!) However, this one is much easier and doesn’t involve searching for a Notorious Mark to complete it. However, unless you’re regularly checking Clive’s missives at his desk in the hideaway, you might miss this sidequest.

How to find and finish “Blacksmith’s Blues II” in Final Fantasy XVI

Not long after destroying the third mothercrystal, a number of sidequests will open up at Clive’s desk at the hideaway. One is a letter from August expressing his concern about Blackthorne. Just like in the first quest in this line, he seems a bit off. Go talk to him after seeing the letter and accepting the quest, and he’ll talk about a sword Charon got in and sold. From there, stop by Charon’s Toll. She’ll tell you she sold it to Lord Ignac. Head to The Dhalmekian Republic and head to the second floor of the inn. As you walk down the hall, you’ll automatically trigger a scene with Ignac and his manservant Radim. Radim explains someone robbed Ignac, and the sword was among the things stolen.

This means a quick fight against some level 30 bandits. I was at level 33 at the time, and the fight went incredibly swiftly. You’ll find them right at the location on the Dhalmekian Republic map I took a screenshot of below.

Beat up the bandits. Once the fight’s done, Clive will be back at the inn with Ignac and Ramid. You’ll learn more about the sword and get a Sundered Whetstone. Take that back to Blackthorne at the hideaway. It will give him new ideas for weapons for Clive’s crew. You’ll get 900 EXP, 30 renown, a Meteorite, and most importantly the Excalibur Design Draft. This is a recipe for a fantastic sword for Clive. It needs one Scarletite, 300 Wyrrite, one Bomb Ember, and a Grimalkin Hide. Those last two are Notorious Mark drops, so get ready to go hunting.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
