How to Finish ‘Tears of Mercy’ in Final Fantasy XVI

The “Tears of Mercy” Final Fantasy XVI sidequest is one designed to help people better understand Tarja. It also isn’t too difficult to tackle, since it’s a typical fetch quest. Talk to people in the hideaway. Go fight monsters to get a required material. Head back to the healers. Then, get a reward.

Right about when the “A Song of Hope” mainline quest opens up, you’ll see there’s a sidequest marker at the healers’ office in the hideaway. Head there and talk to Rodrigue the physicker to start the quest “Tears of Mercy” in Final Fantasy XVI. Tarja is overworking herself to aid a particular patient, and she wants to make a certain kind of potion for him. After getting the quest from Rodrigue, walk a few steps to Tarja to find out what she needs for the Tears of Mercy medicine from the two healers.

From there, you’ll be tasked with getting an eye from a Miteling. This means heading to the Holy Empire of Sanbreque map. The Miteling you need is down The Old Road. You could get here from the Lost Wing or Northreach locations. This is basically a can’t miss it encounter, as once you get to that area, you’ll trigger the sighting and fight. I marked it with the cursor on the screenshot below.

The Miteling is a level 35 monster. I was at level 37 when I took on the task, and it’s a fairly quick fight. You get a Spider Eye, 20 Sharp Fang, 350 EXP, 40 AP, and 150 gil for beating it. Return to the hideaway and the infirmary to give the eye to Rodrigue. In exchange, you get 400 EXP, 1,200 gil, 25 renown, 20 Sharp Fangs, and 40 Magicked Ash.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
